Something for Everyone

Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature.

Celebrate our country's 149th birthday with a bang! Canada Day at the Legislature is an all-ages event that offers many favourite experiences along with new adventures for Canada Day goers in 2016. There will be entertainment, exhibits and activities for everyone to enjoy, all taking place at one of the most picturesque areas in our province, the Alberta Legislature Grounds.

Family Entertainment

Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature.

The Legislature Grounds will be bustling with activity starting in the morning. The Alberta Family Fun Zone, located on the South Grounds, will be up and running at 10 a.m. kids and their parents can take part in a number of crafts, fun and educational pursuits and musical performances!

Pomp and Ceremony

Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature.

At noon the traditional 21-gun salute will take place on the west side of the Legislature Building and will lead us into the Canada Day welcome ceremony with pipe band performances, the singing of O Canada and speeches from our province's leaders. Join CBC's Mark Connolly and Adrienne Pan hosting this year's ceremony.

Legislature Building Open House

Open House

The open house gives our Canada Day visitors the chance to explore the Alberta Legislature at their leisure. Marvel at the building's iconic architecture and check out where your MLA sits when you walk the Chamber floor, an honour reserved for visitors only on July 1.

Outdoor Entertainment

Open House

The Alberta Diversity stage on the North Grounds will celebrate the richness of our province's cultural landscape through the music and dance talent of some of Alberta's best performers. Hosted by CBC's Adrienne Pan, performances begin at 12:30 p.m.

Some of the best singer/songwriter artists and bands in the country hail from Alberta, and on Canada Day you'll find them at the Alberta Discovered stage on Capital Plaza! Hosted by CBC's Sandra Batson, the music gets under way at 12:40 p.m. and will close out the day's celebrations at 7 p.m.

Edmonton Federal Building

Open House

The Legislative Assembly Visitor Centre on the main floor of the Edmonton Federal Building will be open to the public on Canada Day from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Highlights to check out in the refurbished historical building include the Pehonan Theatre, the Agora Interpretive Centre, the Alberta Branded retail store and Voices for the Vote, an exhibition highlighting some of the voices of Alberta's suffrage movement located in the Borealis Gallery.
