Legislative Assembly Visitor Centre

Canada Day at the Alberta Legislature.

The Legislative Assembly Visitor Centre on the main floor of the Edmonton Federal Building will be open to the public on Canada Day. Visitors can enjoy the film Our People Our Province in the Pehonan Theatre, learn all about active citizenship and the democratic process in the Agora Interpretive Centre and take in Fur: The Fabric of Our Nation, an exhibition in the Borealis Gallery that tracks fur trade expansion across the prairies into Alberta.

The Canada Day Welcome Ceremony on the front steps of the Legislature Building kicks off with Cara Lianne McLeod singing O Canada and speeches from our province’s leaders.

Explore the Alberta Legislature! Marvel at the building’s iconic architecture, and check out where your MLA sits when you walk the Chamber floor, an honour reserved for visitors only on July 1.

Alberta Family Fun Zone

The Legislature Grounds will be bustling with activity. The Alberta Family Fun Zone, located on the South Grounds, will have fun activities and entertainment for parents and children.

Alberta Diversity Stage

Bandshell

The Alberta Diversity stage on the Legislature South Band Shell will celebrate the richness of our province’s cultural landscape through the music and dance talent of some of Alberta’s best performers. The Alberta Diversity stage will be hosted by CBC Edmonton’s Adrienne Pan and Min Dhariwal. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy performances all afternoon.

Indigenous Showcase

Showcase

Celebrate the history and culture of Alberta’s Indigenous people at the Indigenous Showcase, located on the Legislature’s West Lawn. The area will feature performers and a firepit. Visitors can immerse themselves in the culture of Alberta’s first people in the gathering area, with storytelling and teepees.

Alberta Discovered Stage

Stage

Some of the best singer/songwriter artists and bands in the country hail from Alberta, and on Canada Day you’ll find them at the Alberta Discovered stage on the Capital Plaza! Bring a blanket or lawn chair as the music gets underway at 12:30 p.m.
