The majority of the information contained within this Website first appeared in a
publication: Lieutenant Governors of the Northwest Territories and Alberta 1876-1991
(1991).
This publication was originally conceived by a former Speaker of the Legislative
Assembly of Alberta, The Honourable David J. Carter. Most of the research for this
particular volume was completed by John E. McDonough, the former Director of Legislative
Research Services at Alberta's Legislature Library, and Kenneth W. Tingley, Historic
Resource Consultant and Researcher. Some of the research and all of the related editing
and design were completed by D. Blake McDougall, a former Assistant Deputy
Minister/Legislature Librarian. Assistance was also provided by The Honourable H.A.
"Bud" Olson, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta; surviving ex-Lieutenant Governors;
relatives of deceased Lieutenant Governors, when they could be located; as well as the
Parliamentary Library, Ottawa; the British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova-Scotia, Ontario,
Quebec, and Saskatchewan Legislative Libraries; and the Alberta, Glenbow, Manitoba, and
Saskatchewan Archives. The portraits of the Lieutenant Governors for the period 1876 to
1991 are photographs of oil painting which are on display at Alberta's Legislature
Building. The photograph of The Honourable T. Gordon Towers and The Honourable H.A.
"Bud" Olson were provided by the Alberta Public Affairs Bureau. Christina Ha and
Eileen Cardy prepared the manuscript for publication and Candace Fertile and Eileen Cardy
assisted with proofreading. This publication was prepared for the web by Christian
Tremblay. |
