Royal Canadian Legion Launches National Poppy Campaign At Legislature
October 20
Edmonton - The Royal Canadian Legion will make a poppy presentation in the Legislature Rotunda
at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2000, as they launch their national poppy campaign.
As part of the Royal Canadian Legion's national campaign the Alberta-Northwest Territories
Command will present poppies to Her Honour the Honourable Lois Hole, Lieutenant Governor; Mr.
Don Tannas, MLA, Deputy Speaker; Mrs. Mary O'Neill, MLA, St. Albert, representing the
government; Mrs. Nancy MacBeth, MLA, Leader of the Official Opposition; Dr. Raj
Pannu, MLA,
Leader of the New Democrats; and other Members of the Legislative Assembly.
"The Royal Canadian Legion's Alberta-Northwest Territories Command is again embarking on one
of the most important events on their calendar: the annual poppy campaign. The presentation of
first poppies today to the Lieutenant Governor and to members marks the start of this most worthy
endeavour," Deputy Speaker Don Tannas said. " I know that Members of the Legislative Assembly
will join me in supporting the Legion through donating to the Poppy Fund. In buying and wearing a
poppy, we help veterans and their families and remember sacrifices made in war and in the cause of
peace."
The public is most welcome to join in this launching of the 2000 poppy campaign at the Legislature.
