Royal Canadian Legion Launches Poppy Campaign at the Legislature
Edmonton—“The simple act of wearing a poppy shows support for the Legion and acknowledges the sacrifices made by Canadian soldiers,” stated The Honourable Ken Kowalski, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. “We are very honoured to again host this poppy presentation ceremony.”
The Royal Canadian Legion's Alberta-Northwest Territories Command supports veterans, their dependents and many programs for youth and seniors throughout the province. They will distribute the first poppies of their campaign in the Legislature Rotunda at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2006.
Poppies will be presented to His Honour, The Honourable Norman Kwong, Lieutenant Governor; Speaker Kowalski; Deputy Premier Shirley McClellan; Mr. Hugh Macdonald, MLA representing the Official Opposition; Mr. Brian Mason, Leader of the Third Party Opposition; and other Members of the Legislative Assembly along with Grade 6 students from Greenfield Elementary School.
The public is welcome to join the launch of the 2006 Poppy Campaign at the Legislature.
