Celebrate! The Holiday Season at the Alberta Legislature

Edmonton—Alberta’s Legislative Assembly has turned things up a notch this holiday season. This year the grounds will feature free BrightNights displays and ice sculptures commemorating 100 Years of Democracy in addition to the annual Celebrate the Season festivities, which kick-off on November 30 with the Light-up.

“This year our Celebrate the Season festivities will be extra special,” said Ken Kowalski, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. “I can think of no better way to get into the spirit of the season than a trip to the Alberta Legislature to take in the lights, choirs and other festive activities.”

Free Holiday Events at the Alberta Legislature

Christmas Light-Up, November 30
Enjoy the University of Alberta Mixed Chorus in the rotunda at 4 p.m. and watch Premier Ralph Klein switch on the outdoor lights at 4:45 p.m. To fill your tummy and warm your toes, cookies and hot chocolate will be served.

Voices in the Rotunda, November 30 to December 23
Starting November 30, on scheduled days during noon hours and evenings from 6 to 9 p.m., celebrate the season by listening to the voices of local school and community choirs, including the Festival Singers, in the Legislature Rotunda. For choir schedules check our web site at www.assembly.ab.ca. Hot chocolate will be served in the evenings.

Winter Wonderland
Starting on November 30 with the Light-up, the Legislature Grounds will be a wonderland of light and sound this season. This year the Alberta Legislature is proud to feature BrightNights displays and ice sculptures created by members of the Sculptors’ Association of Alberta. And don’t forget your skates–weather permitting; skating is available on the grounds daily.

Events in the Pedway, November 30 to December 23
Edmonton and area schools spread cheer in the pedway by displaying their handcrafted gingerbread houses and Christmas trees decorated with homemade ornaments. The craft table will keep little hands busy making Christmas cards and other holiday creations.

The Interpretive Centre, pedway and gift shop will be open evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
