Close to three million words were spoken in the Legislative Assembly in 2007, 2,917,164 to be exact. There were 5,351 questions and answers posed during Oral Question Period.
So what’s in store for 2008?
“I think that’s part of the excitement of our work as MLAs,” said Speaker Ken Kowalski. “Our business is always changing as it is the people we represent who really determine what is discussed in the House.”
On February 4, 2008, at 3 p.m. the Honourable Norman L., Kwong, C.M., A.O.E., Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, will deliver the Speech from the Throne. This will be the fourth Speech from the Throne the Lieutenant Governor has delivered since his appointment in 2005.
The Speech from the Throne is delivered during the Opening Day ceremonies, officially beginning the Fourth Session of the 26th Legislature. The speech outlines the proposed spending and lawmaking plans for 2008.
The first day of regular House business is scheduled for February 5, 2008, beginning at 1 p.m. Both the Opening Day ceremonies as well as the sitting days of spring session can be viewed live on the Assembly’s website at www.assembly.ab.ca.
