Alana DeLong was elected to her third term on March 3, 2008, as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-Bow.
Ms. DeLong serves as a member of the Standing Committees on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund and the Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing.
Born in Nelson, British Columbia, Ms. DeLong obtained her bachelor of science (honours) in mathematics with a minor in theatre from the University of British Columbia. She then moved to Calgary, where she attended courses at the University of Calgary in the masters in computer science program.
Ms. DeLong has more than 20 years of experience in information technology and has worked for many leading high-tech computer firms in Calgary. She was president of Sterlingrock Systems Incorporated. She was also the first female computer mainframe salesman with Sperry Univac and was the first female marketing manager with Canadian General Electric.
An active member of her community, some of Ms. DeLongs past contributions have been as president of Tuesday Nooners Toastmasters and as a singer with the Calgary Opera Chorus. She has campaigned extensively for the Red Cross Society, Cancer Fund, Heart and Stroke Fund, Flowers of Hope and various municipal, national and provincial elections. She has hosted a TV ski program and has been an actress with Theatre Calgary.
Ms. DeLong has called the community of Bowness home for more than 30 years, where she resides in a log home that she built for her family. She enjoys the outdoors and has hiked the provinces mountains and canoed most of the rivers in southern Alberta.
Ms. DeLong is married to Dennis Beck. Together they have two grown children, Samantha and James.
