Deputy Government House Leader
Jonathan Denis, QC, was elected to his first term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary-Egmont on March 3, 2008, and currently serves as Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs. In addition, Mr. Denis serves as Deputy Government House Leader.
Previously Mr. Denis served on the following standing committees of the Legislative Assembly:
- Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund
- Public Accounts
- Resources and Environment
Mr. Denis previously served as Parliamentary Assistant for Energy. He has also sponsored several pieces of legislation, including the Rules of Court Statutes Amendment Act, the Civil Enforcement Amendment Act, and the Family Law Amendment Act.
Mr. Denis was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He graduated with a bachelor of business administration from the University of Regina and a bachelor of laws from the University of Saskatchewan. Prior to serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Mr. Denis was a senior associate with a national law firm specializing in litigation and government relations. He was also the president of a national communications firm and a director of the Institute for Public Sector Accountability.
An active part of his community Mr. Denis has been a volunteer with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Canadian Cancer Society. Mr. Denis has also acted as a health care advocate for patients throughout Calgary.
