Jonathan Denis
 

Mr. Denis was elected to his first term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary-Egmont on March 3, 2008, and was named Parliamentary Assistant for Energy on September 16, 2009. As Parliamentary Assistant, Mr. Denis represents Alberta internationally on energy-related matters. In addition Mr. Denis serves on the following committees:

  • Standing Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund
  • Public Accounts Committee
  • Standing Committee on Resources and Environment
  • Cabinet Policy Committee on Resources and Environment
  • Alberta/Alaska bilateral committee
  • Private Members Bills House Strategy Committee

Mr. Denis previously served as a member of the Cabinet Policy Committee on Health and the Land Use Framework Committee. He has also sponsored several pieces of legislation, including the Rules of Court Statutes Amendment Act, the Civil Enforcement Amendment Act, and the Family Law Amendment Act.

Mr. Denis was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. He graduated with a bachelor of business administration from the University of Regina and a bachelor of laws from the University of Saskatchewan. Prior to serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Mr. Denis was a senior associate with a national law firm specializing in litigation and government relations. He was also the president of a national communications firm and a director of the Institute for Public Sector Accountability.

An active part of his community, Mr. Denis has been a volunteer with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Canadian Cancer Society. Mr. Denis has also acted as a health care advocate for patients throughout Calgary.
