Paul Hinman was elected to his second term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the constituency of Calgary-Glenmore in a by-election on September 14, 2009. He served his first term as the Member representing Cardston-Taber-Warner from 2004 to 2008.
In addition to his role as Member, Mr. Hinman serves as a member of the following standing committees of the Legislative Assembly:
- Economy
- Legislative Offices
- Private Bills
- Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing
Prior to his service with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Hinman was an irrigation farmer and small business entrepreneur.
He first became interested in politics through his mentor and grandfather, E.W. (Ted) Hinman, former Member of the Legislative Assembly and Minister of Municipal Affairs from 1954 to 1955 and Provincial Treasurer from 1955 to 1964. His interest led him to active involvement with Canadian politics.
An avid outdoorsman and community volunteer, Mr. Hinman has played leadership roles through involvement with Scouts Canada and 4-H.
Mr. Hinman is also an experienced traveler, having visited Denmark, Spain, the Caribbean Islands, Africa and Hong Kong, and he lived in the Philippines for two years, where he learned to speak Tagalog.
Mr. Hinman has four children and resides in Calgary, where he lives just blocks away from his childhood home.
