Leader of the Official Opposition

The Honourable Jason Kenney, PC, was elected for the constituency of Calgary-Lougheed in the December 14, 2017, by-election. He was subsequently sworn in as a Member of Alberta’s 29th Legislative Assembly on January 29, 2018. He is Leader of the Official Opposition.

Prior to his service with the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, he was a Member of Parliament, an MP, from July 2, 1997, to September 23, 2016. During his more than six terms as an MP he represented the constituencies of Calgary Southeast and Calgary Midnapore.

During his service with Parliament he held several executive portfolios, including Minister of National Defence, Minister of Multiculturalism and Minister of Employment and Social Development.

Kenney began his public life as president of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
