Ken Allred
 

Mr. Allred was elected to his first term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for St. Albert on March 3, 2008. In addition to his regular duties as MLA Mr. Allred serves as a member of the Private Bills Committee and the Standing Committee on the Economy.

Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Allred worked as a professional land surveyor and adjudicator beginning in 1965. Throughout his career he has received numerous awards and honours, including:

  • Gold Executive Award from SAIT, 1961
  • Professional Recognition Award from the Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association, 1991
  • Champlain Award from the Canadian Council of Land Surveyors, 1996
  • Honorary member of the Association of Nova Scotia Land Surveyors, 1997
  • Premier’s Service Award, 2003
  • President’s citation, Canadian Institute of Geomatics, 2007

In addition to fulfilling the duties of adjunct professor at the University of Alberta and lecturer at NAIT and the University of Calgary, Mr. Allred has served as president for the following associations:

  • Alberta Land Surveyors’ Association
  • Canadian Council of Land Surveyors
  • International Federation of Surveyors (vice-president)

Mr. Allred has also contributed to various publications including:

  • Survey Law in Canada-Chapter 11, 1989
  • Survey  Law in Alberta-Chapter 1, 2006

Mr. Allred has been very active in his community, and in addition to 15 years on the St. Albert city council he has been a member of the following organizations:

  • Sturgeon Hospital Board of Trustees
  • St. Albert Development Appeal Board (chair)
  • Edmonton Metropolitan Regional Planning Commission (chair)
  • Métis Settlements Appeal Tribunal
  • Employment Insurance Board of Referees (chair)
  • Health Professions Advisory Board
  • Automobile Insurance Dispute Resolution Committee
  • Alberta Historical and Educational Foundation for Land Surveying (president)

Mr. Allred is a native Albertan and grew up in Waterton Lakes park.

Mr. Allred and his wife, Marjorie, have three adult sons and have lived in St. Albert since 1972.
