VISIT THE LEGISLATURE!

Every year thousands of students visit the Alberta Legislature, where they experience parliamentary democracy at work. Home to one hundred years of debate and decision making, the Legislature Building is an exciting venue for students to learn more about the history and traditions of the province as well as to observe elected representatives as they debate and develop public policy.

Take a Virtual Visit!

Now your students can visit the Legislature Building from your classroom! All you need is the full version of Adobe Shockwave Player on your class computers and your students can create their own characters, go exploring on their own or take a pre-recorded tour. Let them discover the stories of the building, hear other Alberta students interviewing the Lieutenant Governor, Officers of the Legislature and MLAs, take photos of "themselves" and their "classmates" in the building and do additional research. Numerous student activities and assignments which encourage critical thinking are imbedded in the tour. (Look for the signposts with the letter "A".) Launch the Virtual Visit and add an exciting component to your study of provincial governance.

FOR THE CLASSROOM

For those classes unable to visit the Legislature in person, the Mock Legislature and Race for the Ridings activities have all been adapted for classroom use and are available in pdf format.

The Virtual Visit, school tours and several programs are offered in both English and French. Please specify your request when booking.
