Committee meets with officials from Alberta colleges and universities
Edmonton—Representatives of postsecondary education facilities within Alberta will meet with the Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts October 16 and 17 to discuss financial statements as well as recommendations on issues such as improving financial processes and controls and implementing an information technology governance and control framework.
“I think it is important we have the opportunity to ask questions as they relate to the findings and the recommendations in the 2006-2007 report of the Auditor General,” said Hugh MacDonald, MLA for Edmonton-Gold Bar and Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts. “We went through a similar process last month with regional health authorities, and I believe the committee found it very useful.”
With the signing of the House leaders’ agreement on March 7, 2007, the Public Accounts Committee’s mandate was extended to include review of all public entities funded by the government, including agencies and commissions and regional health authorities.
The committee will meet with Mount Royal College and Grant MacEwan College on October 16. On October 17, the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary will meet with the committee.
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts is an all-party committee consisting of 17 Members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.Information about the committee and transcripts from past meetings can be found at www.assembly.ab.ca/publicaccounts
