Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services
The Honourable Jason Nixon was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre for his third term on May 29, 2023.
On June 9, 2023, Mr. Nixon was sworn on as Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services.
Mr. Nixon has served as Government House Leader, President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance and Minister of Environment and Parks. He was also previously the Official Opposition House Leader.
He served as a member of the:
- Standing Committees on Private Bills
- Standing Committees on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing
- Special Standing Committee on Members’ Services
- Standing Committee on Legislative Offices
- Select Special Ethics and Accountability Committee
Before serving with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Nixon’s employment experience largely centred on supporting The Mustard Seed, a Christian not-for-profit organization. For 25 years, he was involved with the charitable organization, serving in many roles, including as executive director, a position he held between 2006 and 2011.
More recently, and while furthering his studies, Mr. Nixon was elected president of the Athabasca University Students’ Union (AUSU), a position he held between April 2014 and May 2015. Before this, he served as AUSU vice-president of finance and administration from April 2012 to April 2014.
Mr. Nixon’s other employment experience includes working in management for health and safety consulting firms and in business for the oil and gas industry.
He holds a diploma in business administration management from SAIT and a national construction safety officer designation from the Alberta Construction Safety Association.
Mr. Nixon lives west of Sundre with his wife, Tiffany, and his three children.
He was the 892nd Member sworn into the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
