Opportunities For Students

The Page Program is far more than a job. It´s an opportunity for Alberta high school students to get involved in Alberta´s legislative process and learn about parliamentary democracy. It´s a chance to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and challenging environment. Legislative Pages find out firsthand how the Legislative Assembly works and gain leadership training, work experience and career insights, while forming lasting friendships with other Pages.
Pages work as a team to provide necessary services to both Members and Officers of the Legislative Assembly, distributing documents, conveying messages and taking part in ceremonial events.
They are also presented many learning opportunities, including developmental seminars with interesting guest speakers and participation in an annual speech competition.
Recruitment for the Page Program takes place in the spring of each year and Pages are generally employed during the spring and fall sessions of the Legislature. Please refer to the Page Program brochure for more details or contact Human Resource Services.

Two Days in the life...
Mr. Speaker's MLA For a Day is designed to give Alberta high school students the chance to find out what it really means to be an MLA. Through conversations with Members and participation in an interactive two day program, students learn more about the role of an MLA and experience firsthand what it's like to deal with diverse points of view when making decisions on provincial issues.
Students from throughout the province debate a resolution in the Chamber, tour the Legislature Building and spend time in their MLAs' offices. They also attend a dinner hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion and a luncheon hosted by the Speaker, view Oral Question Period and participate in briefing and discussion sessions with caucus representatives, Officers of the Assembly, members of the media or other presenters involved in the legislative process.
The Legislative Assembly thanks the Royal Canadian Legion, Alberta NWT Command for their generous support and assistance with many aspects of the program.
Interested students can find out more from their school, their MLA's constituency office, or the Visitor Services office. The annual program runs in the spring but dates vary and are posted on the website once they have been set.
