The Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund was created in 1976 to set aside a portion of income gathered from non-renewable resource revenues for current and future generations. Today the Fund produces income that also supports programs essential to Albertans. For over 40 years, the Fund has been invested with the aim to deliver the greatest financial returns for Alberta. While its capital has always been earmarked for the future, the Fund has been used to diversify the economy and meet the needs of a growing province. Since its inception it has contributed over $40 billion to support spending in areas such as health care, education, infrastructure and social programs.
