Event Details

Violet King Henry Plaza

12 p.m.

Join us on Violet King Henry Plaza at the Discovery Stage for the singing of O Canada, performed by Andrea House.

Queen Elizabeth II Building

11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Legislative Assembly Visitor Centre on the main floor of the Queen Elizabeth II Building will be open to the public on Canada Day. Visitors can enjoy the film Our People Our Province in the Pehonan Theatre, visit the Democracy Discovery Centre, shop Capital Gifts and visit the Service, Ceremony and Tradition: The Diamond Jubilee Portrait in Alberta exhibit in the Borealis Gallery. The QEII Café will be open offering light snacks and refreshments for purchase.

Open House

12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Legislature’s Chamber floor is open to the public only on Canada Day. Ascend the grand staircase and enter the room where it happens! See where your MLA sits and marvel at the Chamber’s iconic architecture. As well, stop in at the library and look for strange objects like a 54-year-old hamburger.

12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The Alberta Family Fun Zone will feature fun and interactive entertainment throughout the day, including roving performers, a magician, balloon-twisting demonstrations and a crafts tent.

The Alberta Diversity stage on the Legislature south bandshell will celebrate the richness of our province’s cultural landscape through the music and dance of some of Alberta’s best multicultural performers. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy performances all afternoon.

Come prepared to enjoy the day on the Legislature Grounds. Pack sunscreen, bug spray, and lawn chairs and be sure to dress according to the weather.

Getting to the Alberta Legislature

The best way to access the Alberta Legislature on Canada Day is by public transportation.

Bicycle racks are available in several locations around the Legislature Grounds on Canada Day.

If you choose to bring your pets to the grounds, please ensure they are leashed at all times. With the exception of service animals, pets are not allowed inside the Alberta Legislature Building or the Queen Elizabeth II Building.
