Minister of Municipal Affairs
Ric McIver was elected to his third term as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-Hays on April 16, 2019.
He was appointed Minister of Municipal Affairs on January 5, 2021. He previously served as Minister of Transportation from April 30, 2019, to July 7, 2021. He also held the role of Deputy Government House Leader from May 21, 2019, to July 7, 2021.
During his first term he served as Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour. He also served as a member of the Treasury Board and as a member of the Government’s committee on Operations.
As well he had served as Minister of Infrastructure and Minister of Transportation.
Mr. McIver served the residents of Calgary-Hays as the alderman on Calgary city council for ward 12 from 2001 to 2010, a span of three terms. In that time he served on the board of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association, the Calgary Police Commission and the Metropolitan Calgary Foundation. He also served as chair of the Calgary Housing Company.
Mr. McIver became an Albertan on July 26, 1981. He has worked in the food industry in many different roles, including national sales manager and sales and marketing manager of different organizations. He has also owned and operated a food distribution and marketing wholesale business.
He is married to Christine, the founder and CEO of the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta. Between them they have four children and two grandchildren, all living in Calgary.
Mr. McIver was the 808th Member to be sworn into the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
