Ric McIver was elected to his third term as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-Hays on April 16, 2019.
Mr. McIver currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Alberta's Economic Future and the Special Standing Committee on Members' Services.
He previously served as Minister of Municipal Affairs, Minister of Infrastructure and Minister of Transportation. He also previously held the role of Deputy Government House Leader.
During his first term, he served as Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour. He also served as a member of the Treasury Board and the Government’s committee on Operations.
Mr. McIver served the residents of Calgary-Hays as the alderman on Calgary city council for ward 12 from 2001 to 2010, a span of three terms. During that time, he served on the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association board, the Calgary Police Commission and the Metropolitan Calgary Foundation. He also served as chair of the Calgary Housing Company.
Mr. McIver became an Albertan on July 26, 1981. He has worked in the food industry in many different roles, including national sales manager and sales and marketing manager of various organizations. He has also owned and operated a food distribution and marketing wholesale business.
He is married to Christine, the founder and CEO of the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta. They have four children and two grandchildren, all living in Calgary.
Mr. McIver was the 808th Member sworn into the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
