Marlin Schmidt was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Edmonton-Gold Bar on May 5, 2015 and was re-elected on April 16, 2019.
He is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and previously served as a member of the Select Special Committee on Real Property Rights, Standing Committee on Legislative Offices and Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship.
During his first term Mr. Schmidt served as Minister of Advanced Education.
Prior to serving in the Legislature Mr. Schmidt was in site remediation and hydrogeology. From 2008 to 2015 he worked for Alberta Environment as a soil and groundwater contamination specialist.
Mr. Schmidt has a master of science degree in applied environmental geosciences (Eberhard Karls Universität in Tübingen, Germany) and a bachelor of science degree (Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario).
Mr. Schmidt was the 872nd Member to be sworn in to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
