Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Northern Development
On May 5, 2015, Tany Yao was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo, his home since 1977. He was re-elected on April 16, 2019, and again on May 29, 2023.
Mr. Yao previously held the position of Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health.
He has served as a member of the Standing Committees on Families and Communities, Resource Stwardwship, as well as Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing.
He was also a member of the Select Special Committee to Examine Safe Supply and the Select Special Committee on Real Property Rights.
Before serving with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Yao dedicated 20 years to emergency response services, filling various roles throughout his lengthy career.
He has volunteered his time supporting various non-profit and charitable organizations.
Mr. Yao was the 899th Member sworn into the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
