On May 5, 2015, Tany Yao was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta as the representative for the constituency of Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo, his home since 1977. He was re-elected on April 16, 2019.
Mr. Yao currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities and the Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing.
He has previously served as a member of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities.
Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Yao dedicated 20 years to emergency response services, filling a variety of roles throughout his lengthy career.
He has volunteered his time in support of various non-profit and charitable organizations.
Mr. Yao was the 899th Member to be sworn in to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
