Rakhi Pancholi was re-elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Edmonton-Whitemud, on May 29, 2023.
She previously served as a member of the following:
- Standing Committee on Public Accounts
- Select Special Child and Youth Advocate Search Committee
- Standing Committees on Families and Communities
- Select Special Democratic Accountability Committee
- Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing
- Standing Committee on Private Bills and Private Members’ Public Bills
Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, Ms. Pancholi was a practising lawyer in Edmonton with a focus on labour/employment and education law. She has experience working with the Alberta School Boards Association and was a senior legislative consultant for Alberta Education.
Ms. Pancholi has been very involved in volunteer organizations, including ParityYEG, the Canadian Bar Association, Humane Animal Rescue Team (HART), and the National Education Program Committee of the Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF). She has also volunteered her services as a lawyer with the Edmonton Community Legal Centre.
She is a contributing author; her piece Missing a Mentor was published in Truth Be Told: An Anthology of Inspirational Stories by Women in the Law.
Ms. Pancholi holds her law degree from the University of Toronto (J.D.) and a bachelor of arts in political science with distinction from the University of Alberta.
She and her husband, Owen, are raising their two children in south Edmonton. Big advocates of animal rescue and adoption, they currently own two large rescue dogs.
Ms. Pancholi was the 911th Member to be sworn into the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
