Minister of Advanced Education
Demetrios Nicolaides was elected as MLA for Calgary-Bow on April 16, 2019. He was sworn in as Minister of Advanced Education on April 30, 2019.
Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, Dr. Nicolaides worked in the private sector providing communication consulting to senior leaders. He is an accredited civil and commercial mediator and has undergone training in international commercial arbitration.
He is also a former instructor at the University of Saskatchewan’s Edwards School of Business and the University of Manitoba's Asper School of Business.
Dr. Nicolaides completed his PhD in political science from the University of Cyprus, where he studied conflict resolution and education in ethnically divided societies. He obtained a master’s degree in conflict studies from the European University Center for Peace Studies in Austria and a BA in international relations from the University of Calgary, where he served as VP academic of the students' union.
He is a born-and-raised Calgarian and lives in Calgary-Bow with his wife and two daughters.
Dr. Nicolaides was the 931st Member to be sworn in to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
