Josephine Pon was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta on April 16, 2019, as the MLA for Calgary-Boddington.
She currently serves as member of the Standing Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund and the Special Standing Committee on Members' Services. She previously served as Alberta’s Minister of Seniors and Housing from 2019 to 2022.
Before being elected to the Legislative Assembly, Pon worked in the banking industry for over 20 years, holding various positions with three major chartered banks. Her experience has included roles in personal and commercial banking and as regional manager of business development, where she was responsible for multicultural banking and working with over 3,000 staff. She also worked at the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), a Crown corporation in mortgage insurance, as an international trade consultant and in the assisted housing department for the prairie region. Pon was also the vice-president of the Taste of Asia Group in Calgary, where she managed five restaurants and led over 150 employees.
Pon has volunteered with numerous nonprofit organizations in Calgary and Edmonton throughout her life. She was a member of the working group on the Edmonton mayor’s Task Force to Eliminate Poverty, the board chair of Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC), chair of the ISC immigrants of distinction awards gala, vice-president of the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association and cultural adviser for the Glenbow Museum.
Pon holds a Master of Science in management from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.
Pon was the 933rd Member sworn in to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
