Chief Government Whip
Brad Rutherford was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Leduc-Beaumont, on April 16, 2019.
He was appointed as Minister without Portfolio and Chief Government Whip on June 21, 2022. He has served as the liaison to the Canadian Armed Forces since June 3, 2019.
Mr. Rutherford previously served as the Chair of the Standing Committees on Legislative Offices and Private Bills and Private Members’ Public Bills.
He previously served as the Deputy Government Whip. He was the deputy chair for the Select Special Committee on Real Property Rights and a member of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities and the Select Special Democratic Accountability Committee.
Prior to being elected to the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Rutherford served for 10 years as a member of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS). In addition to being a constable, he took on roles as temporary acting sergeant and temporary acting detective for the southwest division and the Economic Crime Section.
He also served in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves for two years.
Mr. Rutherford and his wife, Lora, have two children, and his hobbies include golf and hockey.
He was the 938th Member to be sworn in to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
