Minister of Environment and Protected Areas
The Honourable Sonya Savage, KC was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-North West on April 16, 2019.
On October 24, 2022, she was sworn in as Minister of Environment and Protected Areas.
She previously served as Minister of Energy, Deputy Government House Leader and Acting Minister of Justice and Solicitor General.
Before serving with the Legislative Assembly, she was the senior director of policy and regulatory affairs with the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA).
From 2006 to 2015, she worked in policy and government relations for a multinational energy transportation company.
Before focusing her career on the energy industry, she dedicated 13 years to practing law.
She attended the University of Calgary, earning her Bachelor of Laws in 1992 and her Master of Laws in environment and energy in 2015.
Published works include her Master of Laws thesis – Bill C-38 and the Evolution of the National Energy Board.
