Alberta Legislature Hosts Service of Remembrance on November 6

EDMONTON – Hon. Ric McIver, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, will host a public service of remembrance on November 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. in the Alberta Legislature Building rotunda.
“Today we recognize and pay our respects to all Canadian veterans, including Indigenous veterans.” said Speaker McIver. “We also honour the courage and sacrifice of all soldiers, the ones we lost, and the ones who continue to serve.”
Following Speaker McIver’s opening remarks, official remarks will also be delivered by Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta; Honourable Danielle Smith, ECA, MLA, Premier of Alberta; Mr. Naheed K. Nenshi, MLA, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition; and the Honourable Rajan Sawhney, ECA, MLA, Minister of Indigenous Relations.
The ceremony will feature performances of The Last Post and The Rouse by Indigenous veteran Lieutenant Colin Bonneau, Bugler, as well as a lament played by piper Langford Bawn. Following that will be the traditional laying of wreaths and the event will conclude with a benediction and blessing delivered by Major Robert Kerr.
Members of the public, active service members and all veterans, including Edmonton Police Service veterans, are invited to attend. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live streamed on assembly.ab.ca
and on the Legislative Assembly’s X, Facebook and YouTube channels.
