EDMONTON – Speaker Ric McIver will host the annual Light Up at the Legislature ceremony on Violet King Henry Plaza on Wednesday, December 3, at 6:30 p.m.

“Light up at the Legislature is a time-honoured tradition where families and friends come to kick off the holiday season with the festive displays and fun activities.” said Speaker Ric McIver. “We continue to Celebrate the Season throughout the month of December with our free concert series taking place in the Legislature Rotunda on Fridays and Saturdays.”

Following the blessing by Elder Leonard Saddleback, remarks will be delivered by Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta; the Premier of Alberta, the Honourable Danielle Smith; and the Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, Mr. Naheed Nenshi.

In addition to the Light Up on the plaza, the Legislative Assembly Visitor Centre will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Activities inside the Visitor Centre include free access to the Borealis Gallery, Capital Gifts, Democracy Discovery Centre and Pehonan Theatre. There will also be musical performances by the Cosmopolitan Music Society, hot chocolate, festive activities and more.

Celebrate the Season events run from December 5 to 20 in the Alberta Legislature Building rotunda and feature festive musical performances on Fridays at noon and 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. All events are free to attend.
