Edmonton – On Wednesday, December 3, at noon Speaker Ric McIver will host a ceremony in the Legislature Building rotunda to promote awareness about the well-being and rights of persons with disabilities.

“As a long-time advocate for persons with disabilities I am honoured to host this ceremony and recognize people that have made a lasting impact on Alberta’s advancement on inclusivity,” said Speaker McIver. “People with disabilities should not be excluded - they should be our leaders in building a more equitable and welcoming society.”

The event will recognize five of the 2025 Alberta International Day of Persons with Disabilities award winners and will include remarks from Her Honour the Honourable Salma Lakhani, AOE, BSc, LLD (hon) Lieutenant Governor of Alberta; Honourable Jason Nixon, ECA, MLA, on behalf of the Premier of Alberta; and Ms Marie Renaud, MLA, on behalf of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.
The public is welcome to attend in person. The event will also be live streamed on assembly.ab.ca and on the Legislative Assembly’s Facebook, X and YouTube channels.

An American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter and a Communications Access Realtime Translation (CART) captioner will support this event. The live stream is closed captioned.
