Phillip Peters Sworn-in as Alberta’s Next Auditor General

Edmonton – Earlier today, Phillip Peters was officially sworn-in as Alberta’s 12th Auditor General.

“I am pleased to welcome Phillip Peters as Alberta’s 12th Auditor General,” said Speaker Ric McIver during a swearing-in ceremony held at the Alberta Legislature on June 3, 2026 “His background and experience, along with his commitment to public service, will no doubt ensure his success in his new role.”

“I am deeply honoured to be appointed Alberta’s 12th Auditor General and to serve all elected Members of the Legislative Assembly and, through them, the people of Alberta,” said Auditor General Phil Peters. “I have a deep respect for the dedicated public servants who serve Albertans every day and for the important role they play in delivering programs and services across the province. The Office of the Auditor General will focus where it can have the greatest impact, bringing independent, objective analysis and practical recommendations that strengthen accountability and result in better outcomes, better services, and better programs for Albertans.”

Mr. Peters joined Alberta’s Office of the Auditor General as a Legislative Audit Advisor in 2017. During this time, he has played a lead role in advising audit teams and senior leadership on complex legislative, governance and accountability matters.

The Auditor General is a nonpartisan Officer of the Legislature, responsible for conducting independent audits of every Government of Alberta ministry, department, regulated fund and agency. The Office of the Auditor General operates in accordance with the Auditor General Act.
