Alberta Legislature Hosts Service of Remembrance on November 4

Category: Events News

EDMONTON – “Remembrance gives us an opportunity to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by generations of Canadians who served our country in times of war, conflict and peace.” said Hon. Ric McIver, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. “It is also a time to recognize those who continue to serve today and express our gratitude for their courage and commitment.”

Speaker McIver will host a public service of remembrance on November 4, 2026, at 11 a.m. in the Alberta Legislature Building rotunda.

This year's ceremony takes place at a time when many Canadians continue to reflect on the tragic loss of four members of the Canadian Armed Forces during a training exercise at CFB Wainwright earlier this fall.

“Their loss is a solemn reminder that the freedoms we enjoy are sustained by men and women who continue to answer their country's call to serve,” said Speaker McIver.

The program will include a blessing from Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack, remarks from Speaker McIver, Hon. Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta, Naheed K. Nenshi, Leader of His Majesty's Loyal Opposition, and Hon. Rajan Sawhney, Minister of Indigenous Relations. Attendees will also participate in the traditional Act of Remembrance, a period of silence and the laying of wreaths. The ceremony will feature musical performances including The Last Post, The Rouse and I Vow to Thee, My Country.

Members of the public, active service members and all veterans, including Edmonton Police Service veterans, are invited to attend. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live streamed on assembly.ab.ca and on the Legislative Assembly’s X, Facebook and YouTube channels.
