The Honourable Sonya Savage, QC was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-North West on April 16, 2019. She was appointed Minister of Energy on April 30, 2019.
She previously served as Deputy Government House Leader from May 21, 2019, to July 7, 2021, and Acting Minister of Justice and Solicitor General from January 17 to February 25, 2022.
Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, she worked as the senior director of policy and regulatory affairs with the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA).
From 2006 to 2015 she worked in policy and government relations for a multinational energy transportation company.
Before focusing her career on the energy industry she dedicated 13 years to the practice of law.
She attended the University of Calgary, where she earned her bachelor of laws in 1992 and her master of laws degree in environment and energy in 2015.
Savage was appointed as Queen’s Counsel on April 6, 2022.
Published works include her master of laws thesis – Bill C-38 and the Evolution of the National Energy Board.
