Parliamentary Secretary for Community Outreach
Muhammad Yaseen was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Calgary-North, on April 16, 2019.
On October 24, 2022, Mr. Yaseen was sworn in as Parliament Secretary for Community Outreach. He also serves as a member of the Standing Committees on Public Accounts and Families and Communities.
He previously served as Associate Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism, Parliamentary Secretary of Immigration and as a member of the Standing Committees on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund, Resource Stewardship and Legislative Offices.
Before serving with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Yaseen worked in the oil industry for almost 40 years, starting his career in 1979 with Texaco Canada and working the last 30 years with Imperial Oil. An engineer by profession, he is experienced in reservoir and joint ventures engineering and has held advisory roles for processing, transportation, contracts and projects.
He holds a bachelor of science in petroleum engineering from the University of Wyoming, a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Calgary and a master of business administration from the University of Phoenix. Mr. Yaseen is a professional engineer and is a member of APEGA, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.
Mr. Yaseen is an active member of his community, volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross and the Pakistan Canada Association for many years. He has also contributed his time to Junior Achievement, the United Way, the Mustard Seed, MOSAIC Volunteers and the Calgary Food Bank over the years.
In 2012, Mr. Yaseen was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal by then Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, the Honourable Donald S. Ethell.
He enjoys reading, walking and volunteering and speaks English, Urdu and Punjabi.
Mr. Yaseen was the 954th Member to be sworn in to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
