Mandate
The Standing Committee on Alberta's Economic Future is a legislative policy committee with a mandate that relates to the areas of Advanced Education; Culture; Forestry, Parks and Tourism; Infrastructure; Jobs, Economy and Northern Development; Skilled
Trades and Professions; Technology and Innovation; Trade, Immigration and Multiculturalism.
With the passage of Government Motion 29 on May 25, 2022, the Legislative Assembly referred the Personal Information Protection Act, to the Standing Committee on Alberta’s Economic Future, and deemed the Committee the special committee
of the Assembly for the purpose of conducting a comprehensive review, pursuant to section 63, of that Act. In accordance with section 63(2) of the Act the Committee must report to the Assembly within 18 months after beginning its review,
including any amendments to the Act the Committee may recommend.
The Standing Committee on Alberta’s Economic Future commenced its review of the Personal Information Protection Act, on September 27, 2022. The Committee must complete its review by March 27, 2024.
On December 14, 2022, the Legislative Assembly passed Government Motion 19, referring the Property Rights Advocate Office 2019-2021 Annual Report to the Standing Committee on Alberta's Economic Future for review. The Committee has completed its review and the final report was deposited as Sessional Paper 73/2022-23 on January 19, 2023. The final report of the Committee can be accessed here.
