Richard Wilson was re-elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Maskwacis-Wetaskiwin, on May 29, 2023.
He currently serves as Minister of Indigenous Relations, a position he has held since 2019.
Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Wilson owned and operated numerous businesses and has extensive experience managing large organizations and joint venture companies. His projects in the construction industry have included residential housing and commercial building and land developments as well as heavy construction, excavation and concrete. He also oversaw the restoration of a tourism operation, which now runs as a cultural training centre.
Mr. Wilson was active in local government for 15 years; he served as a councillor as well as deputy reeve for the county of Wetaskiwin. He held leadership positions with non-profit organizations, school boards and health authorities and has been highly involved with chambers of commerce and a number of condominium and leisure community associations.
During his professional career Mr. Wilson continued to build a ranching operation. Today he still owns and lives on the land that has been in his family for over 118 years. In 2017 the Wilson family was a proud recipient of an Alberta Century farm and ranch award from Alberta Agriculture and Forestry.
He and his wife, Rose, have been married for over 40 years. They have four grown children and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Wilson was the 953rd Member to be sworn into the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
