Minister of Community and Social Services
Honourable Jason Luan was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary-Foothills on April 16, 2019.
Mr. Luan was sworn in as Minister of Community and Social Services on July 8, 2021, and was appointed as Acting Minister of Children’s Services on June 14, 2022. He also previously served as the Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions from April 30, 2019, to July 7, 2021.
Mr. Luan previously served as MLA for Calgary-Hawkwood from 2012 to 2015.
Mr. Luan holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Calgary and has dedicated his career to public service, promoting healthy families and strong communities. Prior to being elected, Mr. Luan served in a variety of roles in the provincial and municipal government, including child protection worker, social planner and manager and senior counsellor. Prior to this, he managed funding for nonprofit social service agencies for over 20 years.
Active in his community, Mr. Luan has co-chaired the Immigrant Sector Council of Calgary and served on the Calgary Council for Addiction and Mental Health. In 2012 he was the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for community services.
Mr. Luan and his wife, Fengying Zhang, have two daughters, Kailie Luan, a resident pediatric neurologist, and Linshia Luan, an investment banker in New York. His hobbies include golfing, badminton, photography and hiking.
He was the 806th Member to be sworn in to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
