PRIVATE MEMBERS' MOTIONS

Private Members’ motions allow private Members to bring issues before the Assembly that they think should be debated and brought to the public’s attention.

Private Members’ motions, formally called Motions other than Government Motions, usually propose that the Assembly urge the government to take some action, such as introduce or amend a Bill or change a policy. These motions often pass although the government is not bound by them. Every MLA who is not in cabinet is a private Member.

This database lists all private members motions put forward during a session of the legislature and includes the sponsor for each motion.
